Nike Collaborates With 3D-Printing Pioneer Zellerfeld to Reinvent the Classic Air Max 1, launching an innovative sneaker that bridges heritage and future technology.

Once again Nike is pushing the limits of sneaker technology to unveil their most bold creation — the Air Max 1000, a radical reconceptualization of the timeless Air Max 1 silhouette. A breakthrough in the evolution of Nike’s journey in performance footwear, this design combines heritage with forward-thinking 3D printing craftsmanship.

The Air Max 1000 preserves the beloved DNA of the original Air Max 1 but modernizes its manufacturing technique in a full-bodied way, developed with German 3D-printing specialists Zellerfeld. The shoe features the iconic wavy mudguard lines that sneaker enthusiasts have come to love, seamlessly integrated with modern design elements that showcase the possibilities of 3D printing technology.

Nike Chief Design Officer John Hoke emphasizes that this release represents more than just a new sneaker – it’s a leap forward in manufacturing innovation. The upper portion of the Air Max 1000 boasts a smooth, contemporary finish, adorned with an intricately carved Swoosh logo on the mid-foot. Below the mudguard, the design introduces ergonomic carvings that demonstrate the precision possible with 3D printing technology.

True to Nike’s heritage, the Air Max 1000 maintains the brand’s commitment to superior cushioning, featuring a strategically placed Air unit in the heel that pays homage to Tinker Hatfield’s original 1987 design. This blend of classic comfort and modern manufacturing techniques creates a unique proposition for sneaker enthusiasts and technology advocates alike.

The Air Max 1000 will make its debut exclusively at ComplexCon in Las Vegas, running from November 16-17. Visitors to Nike’s Air Max 1000 Experience will have the unique opportunity to explore the evolution of Air innovation, from its historic beginnings to this latest technological advancement.

This launch is part of Nike’s broader strategy for 2025, which includes other significant releases such as the Air Max DN8 and celebrations marking the 30th Anniversary of the Air Max 95. Through collaborations like this one with Zellerfeld, Nike continues to demonstrate its commitment to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in sneaker design and manufacturing.
