Seeed Studio has released a new microcontroller board called the Xiao RA4M1, which costs only $4.99. This comes right after the release of the $5 Raspberry Pi Pico 2.

The tiny Xiao RA4M1 board will be available in late August. With a Renesas RA4M1 chip, it can operate at speeds up to 48 MHz and holds 256 KB of storage and 32 KB of memory.

The board features 19 GPIOs, plus eight extra IO pins Seeed Studio says allow for “more complex applications.” Other notable features include CAN BUS, USB 2.0, and a built-in RGB LED.

Seeed Studio has designed the Xiao RA4M1 with four operating modes and ensured compatibility with Arduino IDE. The board also supports various add-ons such as displays, Grove modules, and AI sensors.

In an effort to promote the new board, Seeed Studio is offering an “early adopter program.” Individuals who run or maintain Arduino-related GitHub pages or social media channels may be eligible to receive two free boards.
